1 Kings 19:9(b) But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
We usually want to ask God all the questions. “Why am I here, God”?
Yet God, the all knowing, asked Elijah. What are you doing here?
God asked a similar question to Adam (Genesis 3) after he ate the fruit. God asked, ‘Where are you?’
I really like it when God asks questions, because I know he is all knowing. And being all knowing, he doesn’t need my answers, he wants me to grow through what I go through.
So, what if God asked you.
Where are you and what are you doing here?
Spend time listening to the questions God might be asking you.
Love,
Duane
If you can’t sleep, count sheep.
I guess the presumption is that it bores you to sleep. In my reading this morning I came across this passage of scripture.
John 10:4&5
When he has led out all of his sheep, he walks in front of them, and they follow, because they know his voice. The sheep will not follow strangers. They don’t recognize a stranger’s voice, and they run away.
I can’t imagine a more important job for a shepherd than to know his sheep and how many he has. It seems boring, but I am glad my shepherd keeps track of his sheep and he doesn’t fall asleep doing it. The grass is always greener where my Shepherd leads.

Duane
I’ve been talking to a man whose story saddens me.
He weeps because of broken relationships with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He left his children when they were babies. He hurt them, he admits, and pleads for forgiveness. He is being rejected by many of them. The pain for all, is unbearable.
Some say.
“You made your bed now sleep in it!”
“He is getting what he deserves!”
So glad God doesn’t say that to me.
Romans 5:18-19
I could share all facets of his story, but today, to you fathers are getting ready to leave your families; “Don’t do it!”
His story WILL repeat itself in your life if you choose to leave. You think it’s difficult now and don’t know how to get through it? It will get much more painful. Yes it will.
Love.
Stay.
Duane
I have a simple question today.
What is God not capable of doing?
Don’t give me the “churchy” answer “nothing”, he can do everything, Pastor Duane.
I put limits on God’s capabilities everyday. Everyday. Maybe you do as well, maybe you don’t.
If you do, make a list (seriously) of all the things that you don’t think God is capable of doing and spend time with God on your list. Be honest or you are being dishonest.
By the way, don’t put a time line as to when your answers are due by. He doesn’t operate on our time line. (I have figured that out.)
Love,
Duane

Recently, I traveled down memory lane with a new acquaintance. One of the things he recalled was that is grandpa never got excited. I am certain his grandpa had learned this trait and I am confident this is a learned trait that many of us need to learn.
Proverbs 30:33 – If you churn milk, you get butter; if you pound on your nose, you get blood–and if you stay angry, you get in trouble.
Anger is an emotion and emotions are gifts from God. How are you handling or mishandling that gift? By sharing it OVER AND OVER with everyone around you?
- Stop Panicking
- Pray
- Breathe
- Respond
Also, why is it that our cars are safety zones for our anger to be unleashed on other drivers?
If you churn milk, you get butter, duh.

Duane
