To whom shall we go?

Running AwayJohn 6:60-71

Jesus teaches something to those who were following him.

They said, “This is a hard teaching, who can accept it?”

Many of them deserted Jesus and no longer followed him.

Jesus asked the rest of them, “You do not want to leave too, do you?”

Peter, one of the original “theys” spoke for the rest of them and said, “To whom shall we go?”

Shouldn’t that say, where shall we go? Whom? Obviously, the many that deserted Jesus and went to follow someone else’s teaching.

  • Someone who didn’t require change?
  • Someone who made them feel more comfortable?

To Whom Shall You Go?

Interesting, Jesus did not chase them. Did Jesus not love them? I am sure it broke Jesus’ heart to see them leave. I wonder who they ended up following?

Duane

Grow for it!

Milk BottleMany people go through stuff.

Fewer people grow through stuff.

God is the same in both situations. If we don’t grow, God is the same. If we do grow, God is the same. It is God that makes the difference, but God isn’t the one who becomes different.

You have heard, “When the going gets tough, ____________________________ ”

What about, when the growing gets tough, does the tough get going or does the tough get growing?

Jesus chose 12 men to be his disciples, but there were other disciples that followed him. Yet when the growing got tough, many of the tough got going. Some got growing.

Being a disciple or LEARNER of Jesus’ teaching is tough!

You have to grow for it, dude!

10% Give Thanks…

GratitudeEver wondered why certain things are stated in scripture?

Example:

Luke 17

Jesus healed 10 Lepers, 1 returned to say thanks. I read that and one of the lessons we can teach and learn from that is that we should give gratitude to God. Simple lesson.

However, an interesting point. The “1” who returned is a foreigner or in The Message paraphrase, an outsider. Why is that stated? Why is that so important?

Maybe it is because the regulars in the area, kind of expected God to heal them. Routine.

Kind of like us God “regulars”. Our God amazement factor dwindles.

When the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. We are used to it. It will happen tomorrow as well. My next breath will happen. Routine.

Tell God thanks today.

1 in 10 gave thanks.

Be an outsider.

Love,

Duane
